When did you begin singing, and why?

I have been singing for as long as I can remember, and I was very inspired to be like Hannah Montana. In 5th grade I performed in my first musical and after that singing has always been a huge part of my life.

What other instruments do you play, and what is your experience with them?

Along with singing, I also play piano. I took lessons for 3 years and also studied in college. Currently learning guitar as well!

What are your personal goals as a musician?

My current personal goals as a musician are to expand my proficiency on more instruments to allow me to create more music. I’ve also recently started composing choral music and I’m excited to create and hope to have a choir perform a composition of mine one day!

Do you have a memory of a time when a musical concept or technique really clicked?  Something you’ll remember forever?

I can remember so clearly when I was finally able to access my “mix” for musical theater belting. I had been struggling with it for so long and it was so exciting when it finally made sense, and I love being able to share that moment with a student as well.

What is your favorite piece of advice from one of your past (or current) teachers?

My voice teacher in college Dr. Paige helped me realize that all of the life experiences I have had, good and bad, that I can put them into my music and performance in a way that no one else can, and that alone is valuable.

What was your most challenging moment learning an instrument?

Finding a strong “mix-belt” has been the most challenging thing to learn in singing for me.

What is your biggest musical achievement?

My biggest musical achievement has been conducting Wagner Middle School’s choir, our first performance was one of the most energetic and fun performances I’ve had.

Favorite thing about teaching?

I love seeing how much music can improve people’s lives and how it brings out the best in people. It feels so special to be a part of someone else’s musical journey and experience.

What is a piece of advice you would like to share with anyone learning music?

Explore all types of music and performing and find what makes you feel alive and allows you to express emotions.
